Care for Life

Prosthetics

Prosthetics is a key area of primary care at Green Prosthetics and Orthotics. We strive to make custom prostheses that are comfortable, easy to put on & remove, lightweight, durable, and cosmetically appealing. Loosing a limb is a traumatic experience for anyone regardless of age. We understand this and help each patient work through their own fears, anxieties and often times confusion on artificial limb choices and expectations. Our facilities and our practitioners are accredited by the American Board of Certification in Prosthetics & Orthotics.

WHAT ARE PROSTHESES?

Prosthesis or a prosthetic limb is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part. Prostheses are typically used to replace parts lost by injury (traumatic) or missing from birth (congenital) or to supplement defective body parts. A finished prosthesis is the “completed solution”. For example an artificial knee alone is not a prosthesis, but only a prosthetic part. The complete prosthesis would consist of the residual limb attachment system, usually a “socket” and all the attached hardware parts all the way down to and including the foot.

PROSTHESIS DESCRIPTIONS & OPTIONS

Prostheses are typically categorized as either “lower limb” or “upper limb”. The type of prosthesis that is most appropriate is based on many factors that include: the level of amputation, the condition of the residual limb, the individual’s goals and work requirements, along with available insurance and financial resources. Often more than one prosthetic option or part is needed in order for the individual to accomplish all of their goals. A description of the prosthetic options we provide and their characteristics is shown on the Navigation Bar to the left.
